EPI Research Website Design and Development

Cynthia Carr, an Epidemiologist and entrepreneur, reached out to me to launch a new website for her consulting business. I spoke with her about what was important to communicate, how she wanted to message her services, and what kind of designs she found appealing. I then designed and developed this new website for EPI Research.

It was important to Cynthia to avoid sterile, medical imagery so common in the industry. I selected photos that spoke to the human connection she wanted to emphasize, and built a word and image cloud for the hero.

Above you see one of the more important pages on the website, the featured service of Psychological Health and Safety. This concept had to be messaged in a clear, attractive way to drive home its importance.

As always, it’s vital the entire site looks good and works well on whatever device the visitor may be using.

Trip Chaser Card Game Design

Trip Chaser Logo & Card Game Design

Trip Chaser is a travel-themed card game from Hectic Media, launched in 2023 to an enthusiastic response. Selling out within a matter of weeks, it has been featured in several national publications and broadcasts such as CTV, The Globe and Mail, and Forbes. I worked with Dalene and Pete to create the logo and brand work for Trip Chaser, as well as all the artwork for the box and cards.

The first step was the logo and branding. I wanted to keep it simple and legible, but playful and fun at the same time. I chose colours that would contrast well with each other and allow me to build out a consistent colour palette for the rest of the artwork.

The card game allows armchair travellers to ‘visit’ a number of exotic destinations. I built the artwork in Illustrator, inspired by the look and feel of vintage travel posters. You can see all the destinations presented below.

We also needed ‘event cards’, which would cause you to lose or win money based on the description. These were provided by the team at Hectic Media, and I laid them out on orange (good news) and red (bad news) backgrounds.

We also needed money cards, in 500, 200, and 100 denominations. I placed the numbers in the corners so they could be easily viewed in a fanned pile.

If you’re interested in purchasing a copy of the game, visit their website at: tripchasergame.com.

Thank you to Hectic Media for allowing me to bring your passion project to life!

Drinking Board Game

Monoposhots Drinking Board Game

Drinking card games have been a house party standard for ages, but I decided to shake things up with a different format. I croud sourced some ideas from friends for the tiles, and put together a polished board designed to get the party started.

The illustrations are based around a night out at the cabin, where Monoposhots is commonly broken out.

For the second iteration, I developed ‘Superlatives’ cards, with prompts for the group to choose the drinker based on a particular trait.

Block Party 2022 Flyer & Poster

In spring of 2022, we decided to throw a block party with our next door neighbours to kick off summer. We had posters and flyers printed to inform our area about the event.

I used our 85 Thatcher Branding to inform the design style and colour palette.

For the back, I created illustrations of popular summertime/party imagery and laid them out in blocks.

The 11×17″ poster was just printed as a keepsake for us and the other house putting on the event.

Wine Tasting Cards

Wine Tasting Cards

In 2020, we got together as a family to celebrate my partner’s mother’s birthday. She is an avid wine lover, so we themed the outdoor celebration around that, seeing as all official wine tasting events were shut down for COVID.

Each person in attendance chose a country with a prominent wine culture, and selected a wine from that region. They provided me with their details and I added the notes to the cards.

Everyone prepared their own dish, inspired by the country of their wine’s origin.

Everyone was able to record their ratings and make notes on the back side of the cards, which we compared at the end.

The event was a big success, and the birthday woman loved the professional addition of the cards. She even asked me to print another round so she could throw a similar party for her best friend a few weekends later.

Harry Potter Birthday Party

Harry Potter Party

For my friend’s 26th birthday, we decided to throw a themed party like the aging millennials we are. I took advantage of this to create some custom graphics and elevate the whole experience.

The first piece was a custom birthday ‘card’ styled like the Daily Prophet. I got our core group of friends to submit ‘articles’ with stories and memories. I also included a crossword and a horoscope section on the back.

For a drinking game, I strung up ‘Hogwarts Letters’ on thread from the ceiling, and prompted guests to pull them at random. Once you pull a letter, you have to fulfill the task inside. Sometimes this is a great thing; you get to give out a shot or make someone else answer a question. Sometimes it goes the other way, with you having to take a drink or complete a dare. It’s a game of chance!

I also created custom scrolls with the party guests’ names, and used them to decorate the walls. I also mixed in some signs with popular Harry Potter ghost names.

In addition to the above, we also had a 9 3/4 styled entrance curtain, bottles of alcohol with potion labels, a themed cake, a house point competition, a photobooth, and a Honeydukes candy bar.

Reeve’s Reads Logo & Branding

A friend who is an avid reader recently started a dedicated instagram account where she posts book recommendations and reviews. I developed a logo and brand for her to use to get her off to the right start.

Reva, the reader herself, has recognizable red hair that I wanted to represent in the logo.

You can check out her instagram account here!

Happy reading!

85 Thatcher Logo Design & Branding

In 2021, after a year of being isolated from our friends and being unable to meet up at our familiar haunts, five of my closest friends and I decided to rent a house together. When we moved in, I thought to create a little logo and brand for our home.

I enjoyed being able to create branding with total freedom, developing some skills I don’t often get a chance to work on.

We decided to draw up a quick roommate agreement to mitigate any future issues or disagreements, and I took the opportunity to put it together as a branded piece.

I even went through the process of sending my roommates some options, as I had developed a few different icons and colour palettes for the brand.

I went ahead and developed some other pieces for the house, including a sign to hang at our entrance with our names, and some custom shot glasses as a housewarming gift.

THE BAM GROUP REAL ESTATE TEAM MARKETING

The BAM Group is a real estate team located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I work with them on a contract basis to develop and manage marketing initiatives, ensure consistent branding, and create a steady stream of quality content for social channels.

DIGITAL MARKETING, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND WEB DESIGN

I manage The BAM Group’s instagram and social media channels, creating and designing consistent content. I develop blog posts, testimonials, infographics, and trend images for the feed, as well as posting about any new home listings. I also create more engaging content for stories, such as audience games and polls.

I also created lead generation funnels to connect the team with potential clients. The ones featured above are web ads targeting sellers, leading to a landing page that gathers information on the visitor’s home.

When I came on, I rebranded the website (winnipeg-listings.com), including adding a section with a full guide to the neighbourhoods and events of Winnipeg (BAM’s Guide to Winnipeg), to prove our city knowledge and raise the interest of potential clients.

PRINT DESIGN

Along with digital marketing, print design is still an integral part of the real estate industry. Here are some of the pieces I’ve worked on for BAM.

VANESSA FRIESEN LOGO & BRANDING

Vanessa established her practice to ensure all people can have access to fair legal representation. By balancing the natural imagery with clean, professional iconography and type, the final brand reflects her consideration of environmental and economic sustainability.

Nature can evoke a calming, destressing effect on the viewer, which can be beneficial for those searching for help with a legal situation, rather than being faced with imposing images of courtrooms or stacks of law books.

As part of the branding, I developed some simple icons that mirror the shape used in the main logo icon. The brand colours are a deep forest green and a contrasting warm tan colour. These colours allow for enough contrast to have both light and dark layouts, and also give the brand a natural yet sophisticated feel.

WARM TAN
CMYK : 10/23/50/0
RGB : 230/196/128
#E6C480

FOREST GREEN
CMYK : 77/58/74/75
RGB : 15/27/17
#0F1B11

Many firms use sterile, impersonal legal stock photography to fill out their brands, so making use of nature photography can set Vanessa apart in the market. Also, nature can evoke a calming, de-stressing effect on the viewer, which can be beneficial for those searching for help with a legal situation, rather than being faced with imposing images of courtrooms or stacks of law books.

And here’s how it all comes together, digitally and in print:
